Instructions for filling application form online
The candidates are advised to have a digital photograph (scanned at minimum resolution of 200 DPI or 240×360 pixels with maximum size of 100 KB) and scanned signature (scanned at minimum resolution of 200 DPI or 440×100 pixels with maximum size of 40 KB) prior to starting the filing of applications. A candidate in the SC/ST category should also scan the category certificate issued by the competent authority as specified in section 4.3 of GATE 2010 brochure. A candidate in the PD category should also scan the copy of PD certificate issued by the competent authority prior to starting the online application filing.
1. Frequently asked questions
1.I filled my form and completed the form. I have made some errors. What do I do?
You may send your request for correction by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please quote your reference number and application number clearly in the mail. Please note that all such request must be made on or prior to October 28, 2009 for corrections. Any request made after this date will be rejected.
2.I filled my form and successfully paid the application fee through online payment gateway (once or several times). However this is not showing in the application status. What do I do?
Sometimes in rare cases due to the failures at the payment gateway, we are unable to get the payment information in right time. If your payment is made successfully, we will be doing a manual reconciling of payments and shall credit to your application. You will be able to see this correctly on the application status within one week. You are still advised to contact us through email to email@example.com.
If you have done multiple successful payments for a single reference number, all but one payment will be refunded to you through your card after the payments are reconciled manually. If you made multiple successful payments to different reference numbers, they will be treated as duplicate applications. All such duplicate applications shall be rejected and only one application shall be accepted but NO REFUND of the application fee will be made.
3.Where do I send the draft and cover note.
The draft must be payable to “Chairman GATE, IIT Kanpur” and must be sent along with the cover note to Chairman GATE, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur 208016 UP.
4.My photograph and signature as I loaded on the site are not appearing right. What can I do?
You may send your photograph and signature as attachments to the mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please quote your reference number and application number clearly in the mail.
5. SBI Payment Gateway is not working. How do I pay?
We are sorry that SBI is unable to provide the payment gateway services as of now. You may proceed with the HDFC payment gateway services with a master card or visa credit/debit card issued by any bank.
2. Payment Options
The candidates must use one of the following payment options.
* Online payment: As per RBI guidelines (w.e.f. August 1, 2009), all ATM cards, credit cards and debit cards must be registered with the corresponding banks for an additional netsafe password. If you have not registered for netsafe banking with your bank, please do so prior to proceeding for online payments. The following information is provided for the help of candidates without any claim being made on the correctness of the information
o SBI card holders can use the SBI ATMs for their mobile phone registration. After 24 hours of the mobile phone registeration, they should register on online.sbi.com for MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by Visa netsafe passwords. They are then sent an SMS containing the initial password. oUnionBank of India card holders must register at https://ubi.electracard.com/ubi/enrollment/enroll_welcome.jsp for netsafe passwords verified by Visa.
o Citibank card holders must have the IPIN. They can register for the same on Citibank website www.citibank.co.in.
o Other card holders must contact their banks for details on netsafe passwords (Mastercard securecode or Verified by Visa).
Online payment is possible using Mastercard or VISA debit or credit cards issued by any bank. Our payment gateway services are provided by HDFC bank and they would accept Mastercard or Visa credit/debit cards issued by any bank with Mastercard or Visa logo and with “Verified by Visa” or “Mastercard’s SecureCode” passwords for net safe applications. The payment gateways shall use the secure HTTP protocol for transactions. Application fee shall not be refunded in any situation after the form has been successfully submitted and payment has been made.
* Offline payment: Offline payment is possible through a demand draft payable at Kanpur in the name of “Chairman GATE, IIT Kanpur”. Please obtain this prior to start of the online filing of the application. Details of the demand draft shall have to be entered on the application form during the online filling process. The demand draft should be issued by the bank only between Sept 01, 2009 and Nov 03, 2009.
3.An application which is incomplete by not uploading the necessary documents can be completed by sending these documents by post along with a covering note that can be printed on the online site. All such documents must reach the GATE office at IIT Kanpur by November 3, 2009.
4.A successfully submitted online form will be provided an application number which must be preserved by the candidate. This application number shall be used for all other processes related to GATE 2010 including those related to any enquiry.
5.Candidates must follow the instructions provided on the online application form filling page.
6.Candidates must take a print of the information as it is submitted to the web site. They must also download the information brochure and print if necessary for future reference.
